We are now a few weeks past North Texas Giving Day and there’s something we’d like to say to all of you… THANK YOU!
At the beginning of this year, She Supply set a goal to distribute ONE MILLION period products to women and girls living in poverty in 2024. To help us achieve that goal, we set a fundraising target of $30,000 for North Texas Giving Day and as of this writing, we have raised more than $25,000 with donations still coming in.
To everyone who made a donation to She Supply or helped us spread the word about our North Texas Giving Day campaign, thank you for your gift. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for your ongoing support.
In part, because of you, this year we have already distributed more than 400,000 period products to families in need through 21 partners and schools throughout the Metroplex with much more to come in Q4. That starts with a “smoking good” opportunity that’s both fun and a bit unexpected.
Earlier this year, our board chair Denise Angarola, and board vice chair Lisa Pierce Johnson were invited to speak about She Supply and our mission at a monthly meeting of the Flower Mound Summit Club. The Summit Club is Flower Mound’s oldest civic organization and is comprised of men in the community dedicated to serving Flower Mound and raising money to support local scholarships, academic awards, scouting, robotics teams, and other local charities. To say the men of the Summit Club were both surprised and moved by She Supply’s mission is an understatement. Before the meeting was even over, they already wanted to know how they could help.
On Saturday, October 26, from 11am to 5pm, at the Flower Mound River Walk Promenade, the Summit Club is hosting their annual fundraiser called “FM Smoke & Whiskey Fest,” a massive Texas-sanctioned BBQ competition where more than 40 BBQ teams will battle it out for more than $10,000 in prize money and bragging rights. The event promises to draw 1,000 people and the Summit Club has invited She Supply to participate in a very special way.
One of the most coveted trophies at FM Smoke & Whiskey Fest is the People’s Choice Award. At the entrance, each paying attendee is given a special “People’s Choice” token they can use to vote for the best thing they tasted at the event. Throughout the day, each of the smoke teams cooks something special and delicious to try and get as many of the People’s Choice coins as possible. At the end of the event, the cook team with the most tokens wins the People’s Choice trophy and a big cash prize.
This year, She Supply will have a special booth at FM Smoke & Whisky Fest and anyone attending who brings a full box or package of period products to donate or makes a $25 donation to She Supply will receive an EXTRA People’s Choice token for the event.
One in four North Texas women and girls struggle monthly to afford or access period products. One in three low-income North Texas women miss work and girls miss school monthly because they chronically do not have period products. That’s how the cycle of generational poverty continues. But your attendance at FM Smoke & Whiskey Fest and a donation to She Supply can help change that – all while getting to experience of one DFW’s greatest Fall events!
