In 1938 toward the end of the Great Depression, scientists at Harvard started a longitudinal study of 238 male students at the university that they hoped would shed some light on what predicated health and happiness over time. Now 80 years into this incredible, one-of-a-kind study, the takeaways couldn’t be clearer.
Close relationships and embracing community help us live longer and make us happier.
Despite the negativity we often hear on the news, when there are real needs, every year hundreds of millions of Americans close ranks and do what needs to be done. In fact, when it comes to generosity, we live in the most extraordinary country in the world.
In 2021, charitable giving in the United States topped half a trillion dollars with Americans giving away $516.65 billion. In 2022, in the midst of rampant inflation and economic uncertainty, that number still approached half a trillion at $499.33 billion. We don’t hear enough about it, but when people in our communities are in need, Americans show up.
According to the Internal Revenue Service, in 2022, there were nearly two million nonprofits operating in the United States. That’s an exceptional number of people working hard to try to leave the world better than they found it. At She Supply, we are proud to be one of those nonprofits.
As many of you know, She Supply’s mission is to end period poverty in North Texas by collecting and distributing tampons and pads to unprivileged women and girls who can’t afford the period products they need. Mothers who have to choose between food for their children, or period products for themselves. Women who have to miss work one week every month because they can’t afford protection. Girls who can’t go to school one week out of every month. Families who can’t attend worship.
With the help of our donors and partners, She Supply is helping restore dignity and cleanliness back to those women and girls who need it most. That’s why for 2024, we have set a goal to collect and distribute ONE MILLION period products in this calendar year!
To help those efforts, throughout the month of April, She Supply is leading our first annual Community Collection Event partnering with area churches and civic organizations to collect period products for those in need.
For this inaugural event, we are proud to partner with and appreciate the love, support, and donations from the following organizations:
